the season I am in

 

The first snow of the winter is falling from the sky as I am thinking about change. Once I asked a friend his favourite season. He smiled at me and replied: "The season I am in." That moment was a milestone in my life, for it taught me to embrace what I have.

Change is the ultimate truth of life, only inevitable thing. Change is what surrounds us. It is the Sun in the sky, the snow that makes us smile. It is our heartbeats, our skin, nails, veins. Change is everything you can ever imagine in this cosmos. It is everywhere. 

Thus I wonder why I insist on remaining the same. There's no joy if I push too hard to stay where I am, who I am, what I am.

My yoga practice has also changed nowadays. Interoception is real if you are willing to listen to the sound of your breath. As I am realising I can even cherish myself by simply watching the dance of the sunlight on a wall, I am happy.

On my mat, I am now teaching myself to discover some of my body parts I could never feel before. I am becoming familiar with my inner teacher, letting her direct me. As Paul Grilley says: "Our Yoga practice should be alive and adaptable to our needs as we go through the seasons of our lives."

I am now somewhere where I am adapting change into my life. The things I did yesterday are like memories of a sweet dream that I barely remember. The tree next to the streetlight, the tree I can see from my balcony now, is not the same tree I saw yesterday. These snowflakes falling onto its leaves are unique, yet both the tree and the snowflakes belong to one and only sovereign of life: change.
